The Freeman Cuming House – The Freeman Cuming House was the eighteenth-century home of one of the four founders of Harvard Medical School. Here, for a quarter of a century, Dr. John Cuming enslaved a child named “Bristo” or “Brister.” After taking his freedom and a last name that boldly declared as much, Brister Freeman served in the Revolutionary War. Upon returning home, he anchored the Black community in Walden Woods until his death in 1822.
